GOULDSBORO / FRANKLIN

Robert Archibald Maclean, 84, lately of Gouldsboro, passed away at home on Memorial Day, May 28, 2018, surrounded by his family. Bob was born in Chester, Conn., on June 22, 1933. He was raised by Archie and Ruth Maclean in Essex, Conn., alongside his sisters and brother, Helen, Marge and Tom, who all predecease him. A proud member of Clan Maclean, Bob lived by the Maclean motto, “Virtue Mine Honor.” He worked hard all his life, retiring as service manager from Saybrook Oil in Old Saybrook, Conn., to live in Franklin. He happily puttered, whistling and singing all around his home, aptly dubbed The Spread, for the last 29 years.

Bob served his country during the Korean War then came home and married his sweetheart, Judith Ann, on July 23, 1955, and spent the next 61 years building a life and a family together. Family was everything to Bob. He leaves behind his four children, Kevin, Tracy, Heather and Cameron; five grandchildren, Lanicka, Brendan, Lauren, Hilary and Phoebe; and seven great-grandchildren, Jade, Emma, Jakob, Florence, Ashlin, Roman and Ayla.

Bob was a great lover of music. Having mastered the search feature on YouTube, he listened to country, bluegrass and folk music every day. He passed many happy, nostalgic hours traipsing down memory lane telling us stories about his life and memories. He will be remembered for his generous nature, jovial demeanor and his friendly expression.

“I fly a starship across the Universe divide, and when I reach the other side, I’ll find a place to rest my spirit if I can. Perhaps I may become a highwayman again, or I may simply be a single drop of rain, but I will remain and I’ll be back again and again and again and again and again.” Jimmie Webb.

In lieu of flowers, please live with a song in your heart, laugh with your family and friends and remember that the best of love never ends. The Maclean family will have a private memorial service.
