BIRCH HARBOR

James A. Sperry Sr. passed away peacefully on April 6, 2018. He was born Sept. 27, 1941, to Wilbur and Hazel Sperry in Middlebury, Vt.

Jim went to the school of Hard Knocks at an early age and learned that if you wanted something, you had to work for it. Working on the Miller family farm and learning carpentry skills on the way, Jim became a highly sought after carpenter and contractor. As a self-employed carpenter and contractor, there wasn’t anything he couldn’t build or was afraid to tackle. After many years of construction, he settled into his favorite aspect and opened his own business, “Custom Cabinetry and Trim Shop” in North Walpole, N.H. Through the years, Jim lived in Middlebury, Vt., Colebrook N.H., Pittsburg N.H., Keene N.H., Walpole, N.H., and finally in Birch Harbor.

Jim was an avid hunter and fisherman and in his later years enjoyed the occasional trip to Foxwoods Casino or Hollywood Slots to try his luck. For years Jim called the Pickled Wrinkle his hangout and could be found there each day enjoying his diet root beer and catching a game on TV.

Jim was predeceased by his mother and father, but also by his Uncle June and Aunt Ruth Miller, who raised him. He is survived by his son, Jim Sperry, and wife, Lynda, of Lamoine; daughter, Debbie Sperry, of Colebrook, N.H., and his ex-wife and close friend Rose Eastman, of Conway, N.H.; four grandchildren: Jimmy, Jason, Ryan, Jessica; three great-grandchildren: Jay, Grasea, Saelor; an abundant number of cousins from the Miller Family, who were more like brothers and sisters to him. Numerous friends who meant a lot to him: Jim M., Josh, Lawrence, Marty, Mert, Linwood, Earl, Junior, Jim C. and Mitch and Janet, just to name a few.

Special thanks to the nursing staff and doctors at MCMH and especially at Courtland Rehabilitation for their kindness, friendship and personal care throughout his extended stay and rehabilitation with them!

A celebration of life will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Wednesday, April 25, at the Pickled Wrinkle in Birch Harbor.
