SORRENTO – Caroline G. Beckjord, of Brunswick and Sorrento, passed away surrounded by loved ones on April 16, 2016, in Brunswick.
Born in Boston on July 29, 1931, Caroline was the daughter of Margaret and Charles Sidney Gardner. She married Eric S. Beckjord in 1953.
A graduate of Vassar College, Caroline completed an MA in English at Carnegie-Mellon (1968) and taught at the University of Pittsburgh and at George Washington University. Later she earned an MS in Counseling Psychology from Benedictine University (1986) and practiced in Washington, D.C. Throughout her life, she returned every year to spend time with family and friends in Sorrento.
She is survived by her husband, Eric, of Brunswick, and their children, Suprabha of Washington, D.C., Charles (Nora) of St. Paul, Minn., and Sarah (Álvaro Aramburu) of Brookline, Mass., as well as grandchildren Tomás and Lucas. Their son Rick, sculptor of Sullivan, died in 2014.
A celebration of her life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Maine Sea Coast Mission, 127 West St., Bar Harbor, ME 04609.
