BASS HARBOR

James Michael Moore, 62 of Burnt Hill Road in Bass Harbor, passed away on March 1, 2018, at Mount Desert Island Hospital in Bar Harbor after a long illness. He was born on June 8, 1955, in Bangor, the son of Newman Lee Moore and Marian Leckemby Moore.

Jim grew up in Milo and moved with his parents to Bernard on Mount Desert Island in 1972. There he met and married the love of his life, (Betty) Jo Vaughn, with whom he shared a beautifully productive life building several lovely homes and gardens in Bass Harbor until Jo’s untimely death in 1999.

Jim honed his skill with a cue-stick while managing a pool hall and bar in Southwest Harbor. Whether racing a motorcycle on a slick track or diving for scallops in the dead of winter, Jim lived fast and loose. A new venture would catch his eye and Jim would go for it. A serious stroke at age 42 slowed him down but did not stop him.

Jim and Jo had many friends, from carpenters to millionaires, and entertained them all. However, they were happiest at home together with their dogs.

Jim was predeceased by his parents and is survived by his siblings, John E. Moore of San Angelo, Texas; Helen Lee Moore of Colorado Springs, Colo.; Mary E. Clark of Panama City, Fla.; and Betty M. Lamoreau of Manchester, Maine, and by several nieces and nephews.

At his request, friends and family will celebrate Jim’s life on Gott’s Island in the summer, where his ashes will be buried next to Jo. Memories and condolences may be shared at www.directcremationofmaine.com.
