STANDISH
Thomas William Hawxwell, age 74, passed away at Sedgewood Commons in Falmouth on Oct. 16, 2017.
He was born in Portland on Sept. 14, 1943, a son of the late William and Clara (Berry) Hawxwell.
After graduating from Gorham High School, Thomas went on to proudly serve the country in the United States Air Force.
He worked throughout his working years at SD Warren, working as a pipefitter, welder and other mechanic positions. He also taught welding at SD Warren.
Thomas will always be remembered for his love of family, camping, snowmobiling, boating, hunting, attending tractor pulls, country music dancing with his wife and motorcycling.
He was a member of the American Welding Society.
Thomas was predeceased by his sister, Barbara Davis; and a nephew, Jesse Riggs.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Audrey (Bickford) Hawxwell; children Dori Flynn and her husband, Scott, of Raymond, Daniel Hawxwell and his wife, Christina, of Standish and Susan FitzGerald and her husband, Norman, of Limerick; brother James Hawxwell of Florida; half-brother Philip Welch of Florida; grandchildren Caitlyn, Garrett and Malayna Hawxwell and Steven, Abigail, Micah and Ceara FitzGerald; mother- and father-in-law Vernon and Laverne Bickford of Hancock; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation will be on Thursday, Oct. 19, from 10 to 11 a.m., followed by an 11 a.m. funeral service with USAF honors at the Chad E. Poitras Cremation and Funeral Service Chapel, 498 Long Plains Road (Route 22) in Buxton.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the American Red Cross, 2401 Congress St., Portland, ME 04102.
