Ruth Leach Ober died at home on Sept. 29, 2017. She was born in Rehoboth, Mass., on June 19, 1921, the daughter of Edith Olson Leach and Harry Leach. She resided in Warwick, R.I., and later moved to Downeast Maine. She was a graduate of Aldrich High School. She was predeceased by four brothers, John, David, Donald and Harry Jr., and two sisters, Hope and Betty. Her sister Elsa Chilinski survives her. Married to Floyd Rollins Ober for 62 years, they had four children: Conrad Ober, Ann Maske, Becky Birely and Clyde Ober. She left behind many, many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who all knew her as Nana.

She received a pin in recognition of her generosity in sending care packages to Afghanistan. She was actively involved in church, volunteered for Girl Scouts, Hospice and Faith in Action and was named Volunteer of the Year by Faith in Action in 2007. She loved everyone, and was known for her beaming smile and warm hugs.

Ruth was an outdoor girl. She loved the water with swimming, boating and fishing and was a member of the Old Sow Whirlpool Survivor’s Club. She had a green thumb for growing vegetables and flowers especially African violets. When spring and summer rolled around you would find her gathering dandelions, picking berries and going on picnics. Ruth enjoyed sharing stories of Jesus, knitting, baking pies and playing cards.
