Darlene Louise Spencer (Moon), 58, of Ellsworth passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 26, 2017, after a battle with cancer. She was born in Ellsworth on Sept. 14, 1958, to Sylvia and Maurice Moon, who divorced shortly after. Sylvia remarried when Darlene was 2.
Darlene was also married twice, first to Warren Dowling Jr. The couple’s marriage ended in divorce in 1985, but the union produced three children, the true loves of her life. She got remarried to Alan Spencer. They also ended in divorce.
She enjoyed dancing, bingo, yard sales, playing cards and Yahtzee, adult coloring books and just being with her family, especially her grandson.
She was preceded by her very special grandparents, Theodore and Elizabeth Bunker, and their children Roberta and Theodore Jr., Jr.’s wife, Marilyn, and another aunt, Nancy, and her mother, Sylvia, who passed earlier this year.
She is survived by her stepfather Ellis “Sonny” Young, brother Donald Young and sister Roberta Young and her life partner David Carter, all of Ellsworth, daughter Lee Southwick and wife, Kolby, of South Portland, son Warren Dowling III and wife, Tracy, from Lamoine, daughter April Dowling of Portland, grandchildren Lisa Robbins and husband, Calvin, of Searsport, Casey Hudson of Fort Kent, Ashley Hudson of Lamoine and Warren Dowling of Lamoine. Her Uncle Richard Bunker Sr. and life partner Verna Chic. Also many, many special cousins; as mentioned, she loved her family.
There will be a potluck celebration of her life 11 a.m.-2 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 5, at the old Bryant E. Moore School, now Moore Community Center. Interment will be private at Woodbine Cemetery in Ellsworth.
