BROOKLIN

Carol Mary Damon lost her long battle with cancer June 14, 2017. Born March 27, 1942, daughter of Mary and Charles Eaton of Brooklin. Carol was also raised in the home of Mary and Bert Candage, who were second parents to her. A graduate of Brooklin High School, she remained an active member of the Alumni Association right up until her death. Carol gave 100 percent to anything she undertook, and she worked tirelessly to aid the causes she believed in, whether it was the yearly Brooklin Alumni Banquet, where she could be found setting up picking lobsters and greeting her fellow alumni, or her booth with her family at the Relay for Life, where she would raise money for the team Coastal Kids for a Cure. Or maybe in Brewer, you would see her at the Race for a Cure; she gave her all.

Carol will be forever known for her many years as postmaster for Sargentville, where she worked until its closing. After that she moved to Ellsworth Mardens, working as the manager of the fabric department, to deal with people who shared her love of quilting. She made friends with her customers, sharing tips and a smile.

She is survived by her best friend and sister Catherine “Tink” Hutchinson of Brooklin; brother Charles “Shab” Eaton of Stonington; son Brian, and wife, Jennie, of Blue Hill; son Bruce of Orland; son Bradley of Brooklin; son Barry and wife, Missy, of Sedgwick; daughters of her heart, Terri Damon, Jan Sockbeson, Lisa Clendenning and Michelle Rockwell; grandchildren Tyler and wife, Brittany; Tim and wife, Nyssa; Erinn and fiancé Sam; Benjamin and fiancée Laci; and Zach, Haley, Emily, Amber, Caitlyn, Dylan, Brandi, Josh, Adam and Jayce.

Also numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews,

Carol was predeceased by her parents, two brothers, Milton and Paul, ex-husband Vincent and grandson Harrison. She leaves behind many special friends from her years at Mardens and as “Post Lady,” including her good friend Nancy King, who helped her till the end.

A funeral service will be held July 1 at 11 a.m. at the Brooklin Baptist Church, with a gathering at Bowden Hall immediately following.
