Joan Carroll Howard Robbins

Joan Carroll Howard Robbins. Joan was born in Camden, Maine, daughter of Rupert C. and Charlotte (Brown) Howard.

Joan lived on Great Spruce Head Island until her parents retired and moved to the mainland when she was a teenager. She attended school on Eagle Island for three years before coming to board with her Aunt Bea and Uncle Avery Marshall to attend school in Deer Isle. Joan graduated from Deer Isle High School with the Class of 1950 and worked numerous types of jobs at M.D. Joyce/ Barter lumber, Goose Cove, Lodge, Sunset Post Office, the sardine factory, Open Door School, and as driver for WHCA until retiring in 1996.

Joan married Harold L. Robbins in September 1951 and they spent many days together running his caretaking business as well as on the boat.

Joan is survived by her daughter Julia and her husband Ronald Trundy, her grandsons Matthew and wife, Rya, Joseph and wife, Holly, special great-grandchildren Wesley, Savanna, Matelynn, Corben and Trevor and her cat, Princess Levi. She is also survived by her three nephews Timothy, Thomas and Peter Gott and their families. Joan leaves behind many nieces, nephews and many good friends, especially Nancy W. and Mary R.

She enjoyed her family, nightly calls from her special nephew Tom, friends, gardening and especially her camp on Spectacle Pond.

Joan was predeceased by her parents, her husband, Harold, (2005), and sister Sylvia.

The family would like to thank all the staff at BHMH for all their care and support during her illness.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be sent to an organization of your choice.

A committal service will be held at a later date.
