BROOKLIN — Mary Ann (Allen) Matthews, 84, died April 10, 2017, at Blue Hill Memorial Hospital. She was born in Sedgwick, Feb. 13, 1933, daughter of Albert P. and Katherine (Sanborn) Allen.
She grew up in Sedgwick and moved to Brooklin in the 1980s. She spent her life raising her children and welcoming the neighborhood children in. She was a member of the South Blue Hill Baptist Church. She was a den mother with the Cub Scouts, Sunday school teacher and assisted with the youth group pizza parties and clam bakes. Her love of God gave her much strength and love for life. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.
Mary Ann is survived by her children, Denice Sargent and husband, Bill, Frederick Allen Jr. and wife, Reneé, Clarence Allen and wife, Priscilla, Stephen Allen and Bruce Allen and wife, Jody; 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; sisters, Polly Gray and Lois Allen and husband, Paul, and special friends, Mike and Elaine Belinsky and Horace Varnum. She was predeceased by her parents; her husband and father of her children, Frederick A. Allen Sr.; husband, Lawrence Matthews; brother, Orville Sanborn and sisters, Beverly Watts and Doris Webb.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. April 22 at the South Blue Hill Baptist Church.
