WALTHAM — Verna Leeman Hardison, 90, died April 3, 2017, at an Ellsworth hospital surrounded by her family. She was born in Millinocket, Octo. 25, 1926, a daughter of Vern and Eva Leeman.
Verna graduated from Bucksport High School. She was a very gifted athlete, playing basketball and softball, and she continued to follow sports throughout her life and was an avid Red Sox fan. Verna loved to have fun and make people laugh; it delighted her to discover a new joke. She had a very competitive spirit. She was an avid cribbage player and horseshoe player and enjoyed dancing and bowling. She dearly loved her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, friends and extended family.
She is survived by her daughter, Karen; stepchildren, Mark, Doug, Bev, Thomas and Inky; 18 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. She was predeceased by her husband, Robert; daughter, Barbara; son, Charles Haraden; and grandson, Dougie Jr.
Calling hours will be held 10-11 a.m. April 7, 2017, at Jordan-Fernald, 113 Franklin St., Ellsworth with a funeral service at 11 a.m. Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery, Waltham.
