SEAWALL – Francine Gloria Stettner, 80, of Seawall, completed the last step of a long journey with Alzheimer’s on Feb. 23, 2017. She was born, May 19, 1936, in New York City, the daughter of Louis and Hilda (Karp) Krisher.
Fran was a professor of psychology at Wayne State University in Detroit, Mich., where she started the honors program and served as president of the American Association of University Professors. She was smitten with MDI during a stint as a summer investigator at Jackson Laboratory. After retiring to her beloved Maine, Fran served on the Southwest Harbor Planning Board for many years. Fran had an indomitable spirit with a great wit, with a laugh and smile that spiced up Mount Desert Island. Her generosity and guidance changed lives, especially of young people she took under her wing.
She is survived by her loving caregiver and husband, Larry, her son Andrew, her sister Roberta Innenberg and three grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, March 3, at 11 a.m. at the Jordan-Fernald Funeral Home at 1139 Main St. in Somesville. In lieu of flowers, the families ask donations to be sent to the Common Good, P.O. Box 265, Southwest Harbor, ME 04679. Condolences may be expressed at www.jordanfernald.com.
