FRANKLIN – Marjorie G. Getchell, 94, died Jan, 19, 2017, at Maine Coast Memorial Hospital, Ellsworth. She was born Aug. 3, 1922, in Franklin, the daughter of Lester E. and Effie M. (Campbell) Bunker Sr.
She attended Franklin schools and graduated from Franklin High School Class of 1940. Her first job was working as a telephone operator. Marjorie and Queen Joy were the first hot lunch cooks for Franklin Grammar School; they also ran the “Snack Shack” for the blueberry factory in the summer. Later she worked in the post office in Sorrento helping her sister. She was known for her cooking, especially her doughnuts, and her willingness to help anytime or anywhere she could. She enjoyed deer hunting and ice fishing. Marjorie belonged to the Franklin School Mates and attended the Franklin Methodist Church.
She is survived by her daughter Faye Havey and husband, Richard; grandsons Richard “Dick” Havey and wife, Diane, Wayne Havey and wife, Julie, all of Franklin; great-granddaughters Melissa, Cheryl, Emily and Heather; great-great-grandchildren Mathew and Kylie; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents; husband of 64 years, Gerald; grandson Mark; sisters Arlette and Vera; and brothers Manford, Lester Jr., (Jake) and William.
Calling hours will be held 1 to 2 p.m., Jan. 28, 2017, with a funeral service at 2 p.m. at Jordan-Fernald, 113 Franklin St., Ellsworth. A graveside service will be held in the spring at Bayview Cemetery, Franklin.
