TRENTON – Deborah Anne Wullen, 59, went to be with our Lord, ending her battle with cancer, on Jan. 5 surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Englewood, N.J., the daughter of Edwin and Lillian Mendler.

Deborah grew up in Bergenfield, N.J., spending summers on the coast of Maine in Trenton. She graduated from Bergenfield High School in 1975 and later that year married Robert J. Wullen Jr. The couple moved to Trenton, where they raised three daughters. Deborah’s passion for others led her to a career in healthcare. Deborah enrolled in the Baccalaureate Nursing Program at Husson College, graduating in 1991 with a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing. During her career as a registered nurse she had the privilege of working in Kingston, Jamaica, as a delivery room nurse. She was then employed by Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor, where she worked in the cardiac step down unit, OB/GYN, OR and recovery room. She then went on to work in the recovery room at Maine Coast Memorial Hospital in Ellsworth, and most recently at Ellsworth Family Practice. Deborah had an unselfish amount of love to give. She actively contributed to the ASPCA, Best Friend Animal Society, Boys Town, Disabled Veterans Foundation, Easter Seals, The Humane Society, Shriners Hospital, The National Children’s Cancer Society, Paralyzed Veterans of America, and many more. Her giving continued after her passing with the gift of sight through organ donation. Deborah was involved with the Lioness, and was a member of Irene Chapter No. 97, Order of the Eastern Star.

Deborah will be most remembered by the love she had for her family. She loved Thanksgiving and Christmas as it was a time for all her family to be together (and get along). She loved to reminisce about growing up, dating, and the early days of being married and raising children. She volunteered in her grandchildren’s classrooms, where all of the children knew her as “Mimi.” She had a special place in her heart from the days she worked in Jamaica and vacationed there with her husband. She is most admired by her “dollies.”

Deborah is survived by the love of her life, soul mate, best friend and husband of 41 years, Robert J. Wullen Jr.; her daughters, Dawn Carroll and husband, Wesley, who she loved as a son of her own, their daughters Gillian and Leah; Meredith Wullen and her daughter Lillian; Tiffany Wullen Raiche and her children Samuel and Julia; brother-in-law Daniel Wullen (the good looking brother) and his wife, Patricia; nieces Julia Latimer and husband, Steve; Jessica Wullen and son Victor; Michelle Wullen; and many other special family members and friends.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Jan. 14, at 2 p.m. at Bragdon-Kelley Funeral Home 215 Main St., Ellsworth, for family and friends. A private interment will be held in the spring. Memories may be shared at www.bragdonkelley.com.
