SURRY – Phyllis Gibson died peacefully at home at age 80 on Nov. 12, 2016.
Phyllis attended school in Harrison, N.Y., and Vassar College, then got her master’s in education. She loved her years of teaching English, as well as directing student performances. She directed adult plays in many venues, including the New Haven Barn Theater. Always active, she enjoyed French Club, sailing, biking, running and always travel and friends.
After working as an office administrator at GTE Corp. and later Yale University, Phyllis retired to her dream home in Maine. An avid gardener and bird watcher, she was active with church, choral singing, swimming, sailing, bridge, needlepoint and especially costume design for the Gilbert and Sullivan Society of Hancock County.
Phyllis is survived by her beloved pets, siblings John J. Gibson of North Sutton, N.H., Frances Duckett of Long Branch, N.J., Susan Leskin of West Burke, Vt., and Margaret Thomas of Burnet, Texas, plus many nieces, nephews and devoted friends, all of whom will miss her.
A memorial service will be held on Dec. 10, 2016, at 11 a.m. at St. Francis by the Sea Episcopal Church in Blue Hill.
