Marion H. McFarland

Lamoine

Marion H. McFarland, 92, died peacefully at her home after a brief illness on Aug. 17, 2022. She was born at Hagan Hospital in Lamoine, June 28, 1930, the daughter of Arthur and Winnifred (McIntyre) Hamor.

Marion graduated from Ellsworth High School. She met her husband of 66 years at the Stratton’s Department Store where he worked. They opened the Ellsworth Giant Sub together in 1967 and Blueberry Hill Dairy Bar in 1982. She worked for the exchange office in Ellsworth and served as town clerk of Lamoine. She was a member of the Lamoine Baptist Church for 80 years, serving as a deacon and Sunday school teacher, and she also served on the Lamoine Historical Society. Marion and Walton made braided rugs, winning many blue ribbons at the Blue Hill Fair, and enjoyed painting and gardening in her yard.

She is survived by her son, Gary McFarland, and wife, Deborah; daughter, Jean Donovan, and husband, Roland Jr., both of Lamoine; nephews, Wayne Sawyer, and wife, Meg, of St. George, Thomas Sawyer of Trenton, Bruce Sawyer and wife, Meg, of Shortsville, N.Y., and Paul Hamor and wife, Michelle, of Williamsburg, Va.; grandnephews, Jordan Banton and Nathan Sawyer; grandnieces, Sophia Hamor, Karis and husband, Quincy Berglund, Kristen Sawyer and Brynnli Sawyer, and many friends. Marion was predeceased by her husband, Walton McFarland Jr; brother, Harry C. Hamor; and sister, Mildred E. Hamor.

Calling hours will be held 5-7 p.m., Aug. 19, 2022, at Jordan-Fernald, 113 Franklin St., Ellsworth. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m., Aug. 20, 2022, at the Lamoine Baptist Church, 24 Lamoine Beach Road, with burial at Forest Hill Cemetery, Lamoine. Following the service, a reception will be held at Fellowship Hall.

The family would like to thank Cahoon Health Care, and Northern Light Hospice for the fantastic care of Marion in her final days.
