Virginia Leona Burkert, “Ginny,” 81, of Blue Hill, Maine. Born in Ellsworth on April 7, 1941. Passed away peacefully at home with her loving family by her side on July 6, 2022.
Ginny loved raising animals and watching nature. She was an avid knitter and crocheter who won numerous blue ribbons at the Blue Hill Fair, which she looked forward to each year. She also donated socks, mittens and hats to the local hospitals for newborns or people in the community in need. Ginny looked forward to her annual family reunion that she named “Pie Day” in which she baked countless pies for her entire family.
Ginny is predeceased by her mother and father, Charlette and Lawrence Bussell; sister, Joyce Gordon, and granddaughter, Aubrey Mitsch. Ginny is survived by her loving husband of 50 years, William Burkert; her daughters, Theresa Mitsch, Cheryl and her husband Dean Cousins; sons, George and wife Sherri Mitsch and Christopher Burkert. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Tosha O’Grady, Jennifer Robichaud, Jared Gordon, Kimberley Nalewajek, Amy Kiger and Heidi Ramos; sisters Sandy and Bette Bussell, Donna Tozier and brother Lawrence Bussell. Ginny was also a loving great-grandmother to eleven great-grandchildren.
In addition to her family, Ginny helped raise and care for several children in the community and loved each of them as her own.
Graveside services will be held at Mt. View Cemetery in Blue Hill Sunday, July 31 at 1 p.m. If you wish to give the family your condolences, refreshments will be held at the Brooksville Community Center following the service. A celebration of life will be at her family camp in Franklin on Pie Day Sunday Aug. 7 at 1 p.m.
