obit-gottBUCKSPORT – James Winfield Gott, 90, passed away Oct. 20, 2016, after a short illness.

He was born in Hancock on May 24, 1926, to Edward J. and Velma (Stratton) Gott, the sixth of eight children and the last remaining child.

Jim attended schools in Hancock, Ellsworth and Bucksport, graduating from Bucksport High School in June 1945. In the summer of his senior year of high school he started working at St. Regis Paper Co., where he continued to work for 44 years, retiring in 1988.

He enjoyed baseball, basketball, camping and Maine hockey.

Retiring brought him great joy while helping raise Christopher and Cory Davis, tinkering in his garage, gardening, keeping the lawns groomed, the snow plowed, and ATVing.

He is survived by his wife Elizabeth (Conners) Gott of 63 years, son Peter and wife, Nancy Gott, of Bangor, granddaughter Nicole Sickles of Dover, N.H., daughter Judy and husband, John Stevens, of Bucksport, grandsons and their families, Christopher and Kendra Davis of Brewer, special twin great-grandchildren Alexis and Harper Davis of Brewer, and Cory Davis and Kathleen Dougherty of Fitzwilliam, N.H. Sisters-in-law Joan Gott of Old Town and Nancy Nielson of Kearns, Utah. Brothers and sisters-in-laws Rodney and Christine Gray of Frankfort and James and Miriam Conners of Topsham. Many nieces and nephews and special nephew, Dale Keyes of Bucksport.

He was predeceased by his parents, his siblings (Charles, Donald, Earl, Esther, Evelyn, Edward, and Ora), and grandson Shane Sickles.

In lieu of flowers, think of Jim the next time you groom your hedges or mow your lawn as this is what he enjoyed so much.

Per Jim’s wishes, there will be a private burial for the family.
