Mount Desert

Judith Ann (Johnson) Kelley, 77, of Mount Desert, passed peacefully in her home in St. Petersburg, Fla., on Nov. 29, 2021, following a terminal illness. Judie was born in Rogers City, Mich., on Dec. 24, 1943, to parents Archie and Etta (Voda) Johnson.

She came to Maine marrying the love of her life, Richard G. Kelley of Mount Desert. Together they resided in Hall Quarry for many happy years, with their three daughters. Judie and Richard were very involved with RV camping, acquiring many friends along the way. For many years they have traveled back and forth to Florida, just as snowbirds do. Among these travels she met her lifelong, and dearest, friends Cathy and (late husband) Frank Richard of Milford. She enjoyed crafting, making many quilts, taking photos throughout her lifetime and making many photo books to hold her memories of all her adventures with family and friends.

Judie was very involved with the Somesville Congregational Church, baking hundreds of pies for their summer pie sales. She very much enjoyed the fellowship and joy this community shared with her.

Judie was predeceased by her parents, her husband, Richard, (stillborn) daughter Ronda Gail, her brother Kenneth Voda and wife, Viola, and sister Susan Piper. She was also predeceased by her dear domestic companion Eugene Paine of Trenton, who she spent her latest years with, after her loss of Richard.

She is survived by her daughter, Denise Boulai, and grandson, Ian Glendon, of St. Petersburg, Fla.; daughter Dawn Lovelace and beloved grand-puppy Shilo of Portland; daughter Shellie McNeil and partner Troy Cleaves of Hancock; grandson Brendon Bouchard and wife, Tarra, of Livermore Falls; and granddaughter Kaylee Bass and husband, Jon, of Augusta. She is also survived by her youngest sister, Nancy Burnham, of Michigan and many, many nieces and nephews from all over.

Judie was a loving mother to her daughters and a very devoted Nana to her three grandchildren. Smitten by being “Nana,” Ian, Brendon and Kaylee were her paramount pride and joy in life.

There will be a graveside service on May 7 at 11 a.m. in the Brookside Cemetery, Somesville. Immediately following will be a gathering at the Somesville Union Meting House with light refreshments to laugh, remember and celebrate the life of Judie. Family and friends are welcome to attend.

Judie spent her whole life helping and giving to others. In memory of keeping her giving spirit alive, we encourage you to find ways to touch the hearts of those less fortunate by volunteering in your community. In lieu of flowers, please feel free to donate to the Somesville Union Meeting House, 1136 Main St., Mount Desert, ME 04660.
