Robert Patrick McVay, 74, of Waltham passed away peacefully on April 7, 2022, at the Bangor Veterans Home, surrounded by his brothers Vern and Doug, sister Margaret and sister-in-law Cindy. He was born May 17, 1947, to John McVay and Myrtle Tapley McVay in New York, N.Y. Robert was always interested in Volkswagens, having owned many Beetles and restoring a 1974 Vanagon camper van. Graduating from Ellsworth High School in 1968, Robert joined the Marines Aug. 7 of that year and was honorably discharged as a lance corporal on Aug. 6, 1974. Robert’s service included a 13-month tour in Vietnam, returning a very changed person. Upon return he was also employed by The Ellsworth American, the Bar Harbor Hospital and WHCA.
He was predeceased by his father, John McVay, mother, Myrtle McVay, sister Elizabeth McPherson and brother John McVay. Robert is survived by brothers Joseph Mcvay of Dixfield, Vern McVay and wife Cindy of Ellsworth and Doug McVay and wife Gail of Franklin; sisters Ann Wells of Long Island, N.Y. and Margaret Day and husband Jim of Ellsworth; many nieces and nephews; special niece Ami; good friend Carl and dogs Ford, Bo and Rohdy.
