Gary Robert Geaghan, 71, passed away unexpectedly on March 7, 2022. He was born on July 25, 1950, in Waterville, a son of the late Robert Joseph Sr. and Gertrude Elizabeth (Bolduc) Geaghan. He graduated from Waterville High School in 1968, Kents Hills School in 1969 and UMO in 1973.
Gary was a property tax assessor for over 40 years. He was employed over the years by the towns of Bar Harbor, Falmouth, Ellsworth, Trenton and Gouldsboro. He retired in October 2020.
As a child, he spent his summers at his family’s camp on North Pond in Smithfield. He loved to fish and as an adult spent many hours taking his son, nieces and nephews fishing for white perch. The kids were never around when it was time to clean the fish! In recent years, he has enjoyed spending summers at his camp on Upper Lead Mountain Pond.
He and his son, Chris, were fortunate enough to enjoy two moose hunting trips together.
Gary resided in Hancock for over 20 years.
He is survived by his son, Christopher (Jodi), and two granddaughters, Abigail and Holly, his brother, Robert Joseph Jr. (Michelle), sisters, Pauline Langton, Maureen Nowlin and partner, Julian, and Frances (Brian) Gaudet, a very special cousin, Callista “Tusie” O’Brien, best friend, Randy Morrissette, his former wife and friend, Debra Geaghan, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Kevin Geaghan, sister-in-law, Barbara Geaghan, brother-in-law, Robert Langton, and niece, Amber Corey.
He has left a huge void in our lives and our hearts are broken. Rest in peace, Gary. Fly high and free.
A service was held March 11, 2022, at Veilleux & Redington Funeral Home, Waterville.
Donations may be made in his memory to the Humane Society Waterville Area, 100 Webb Road, Waterville, ME 04901.
