HANCOCK – Harold D. Cummings, 80, passed away peacefully with his family at his side on Sept. 15, 2016. He was born Feb. 13, 1936, in Brewer to Dana and Ellen Cummings. He graduated high school in Rockland in 1954 and enlisted in the United States Coast Guard that same year, serving on numerous ships and lighthouses during his 20-year career. He went on to work as a licensed electrician, plumber, and burner technician for H.G. Reed.
He started his lifelong involvement serving the community at an early age; he was active in Penobscot View Grange, Masonic Lodge, Anah Temple Shriners, Knights of Pythias, Tremont Housing Authority, American Legion and Tremont Volunteer Fire Department.
He was a jack of all trades. Always willing to lend a hand to those in need and, after death, he gave of himself to others as an organ donor.
He is survived by his loving wife of 23 years, Mildred (Dolly); a daughter, Brenda Perkins of Rockland; a son, Russell Cummings and his wife, Debbie, of Bar Harbor; a daughter, Lise Niles and husband, Paul, of Hope; a daughter, Faith Lawford and husband, Robert, of Bar Harbor; stepsons, Larry Alley and wife, Debbie, of Southwest Harbor; Gary Alley and wife, Debby, of Southwest Harbor; Wayne Alley of Helena, Mont.; and Troy Alley and wife, Kari, of Hickory, N.C.; a sister, Janette Small, of Warren; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Hope Cummings.
Services will be held on Nov. 12, 2016, 2 p.m., at Tremont Congregational Church, 171 Tremont Road, with a reception to follow at the church.
