Janet Elizabeth Somma

The Villages, Fla.

Janet Elizabeth Stewart Somma, 66, passed away peacefully at her home in The Villages, Fla., on Feb. 5, 2022. Janet was the wife of Joseph J. Somma. She was born in Greenport, N.Y., on April 24, 1955, and grew up in Castine.

Janet graduated from Bucksport High School in 1973, from the Newton Wellesley RN program in 1975 and from the EMMC Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) program in 1983. She served as a lieutenant working as a CRNA in the U.S. Air Force from 1984 to 1987. Following that time, she traveled throughout the country working as a CRNA while following her husband, Joe, also a CRNA, who was a major in the Air Force.

Janet was predeceased by her parents, Dorothy P. and Donald L. Stewart, and her nephew Jason. She is survived by sisters Anne Ashton in Arizona and Frances Stewart and Jane Stewart in Maine. She is also survived by one nephew, five nieces, three great-nephews and two great-nieces.

Throughout her life Janet, ever so fondly called “Duke,” was an avid quilter, gardener, cribbage player and always the life of the party.

A private memorial service will be held at a future date. Interment arrangements are being handled by the Neptune Society and her husband, Joe. Condolences and memories may be shared at https://obituaries.neptunesociety.com/.
