With very heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Darlene Marie (Berry) Potter, 49, of Ellsworth on Jan. 10, 2022, at Northern Light Maine Coast Hospital in Ellsworth.
She was born in Bar Harbor on Feb. 6, 1972, to Lee and Barbara (Dupuis) Berry of Franklin. She always had a special bond with her dad, having been born on his birthday.
Darlene attended Sumner Memorial High School. Her son Bryan Lee Berry, whom she shared with James (Jim) Robinson, came into their lives in 1987. She later met her longtime love, Stacy Potter, in 1989 and married in 2000. They share three beautiful daughters: Stephanie Ann, Julia Rose and Rebecca (Reba) Lynn. Her children are the light of her life and a true blessing.
Her love of cooking made all family functions very special. Anywhere she worked she was fondly known as everyone’s “work mom.” She had a very special way and helped anyone, anywhere and anytime she could. She made many friends in Presque Isle while working at McDonald’s. They lived in Fort Fairfield for eight years raising their family. They moved back to Ellsworth five years ago, where she was a manager at the Bucksport McDonald’s. Once her beloved grandchildren arrived, she became a stay-at-home, hands-on Gram! This was by far the light of her life.
Over the years she had taken in anyone who needs a hand up in life. She never backed down from a challenge and was always our problem-solver. She was amazing at crochet and loved to read a good book. Holiday cooking was a passion and made with all her love. Cookouts and family gatherings at her camp on Jacob Buck Pond were her cherished moments.
She is survived by her husband, Stacy Potter, of Ellsworth; her parents, Lee and Barbara Berry of Franklin; her loving son Bryan of Franklin; her cherished daughters Stephanie Potter and Thomas Benn of Brewer, Julia Potter and Dustin Lebel of Orland and Rebecca Potter and Kyle Delong of Ellsworth; her deeply loved grandchildren, Lucas Potter, Logan Potter, Aubrey Potter and James Delong; in-laws Ronald and Sandra Potter of Orland; brother Cornel Berry of Franklin; sister Leanne and husband, Warren Smith, of Mount Desert; many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and many friends.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date in June 2022.
“Enjoy the little things in life, because one day you will look back and realize they were the big things.”
