Irene L. Closson, 73, of Ellsworth passed away on Nov. 6 at Northern Light Maine Coast Hospital after a brief illness. She was born to Stanley Closson and Hedwig Bertin and stepfather Raymond Bertin on April 22, 1948, in Vienna, Austria.
Irene’s biggest love in her life was her family. She was happiest around all her children and grandchildren. She couldn’t be more proud of them all and shared that with everyone. Irene was a stay-at-home mother for many years. She spent most of her working years at Gotts Store, where she thought of them as family. She had a huge, caring heart and loved being around people.
She is survived by her children, Hedi Boulay and spouse Roger, Franklin, Troy Reed and spouse Deborah Smith, Sorrento; silblings, Gail Keene and spouse Richard Keene, Trenton, James Closson and spouse Sandy Closson, Caribou, Susie Bertin, France and Robert Bertin, France; grandchildren Ashley Carter, Nicklaus Carter, Trevor Reed, Matthew Carter and Torie Reed; great-grandchildren Adalyn Richard, Elias Richard, Alice Lary, Ellanora Carter and Owen Lary. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
She was predeceased by her father, Stanley Closson, mother and stepfather Hedwig and Raymond Bertin and her special friend Carroll Lunt.
We would love to thank those in the ICU unit at Northern Light Maine Coast Hospital for making her last week as comforting as possible. The doctors and nurses were amazing with her and us. The hospice people were very helpful and kind. A wonderful group of people. And lastly Courtland Rehabilitation Center. Thank you to those who truly cared for her and went above and beyond to care for her.
At the request of the deceased, no services are planned.
Irene loved her cat Willow more than life. I think she would love other pets to have a life like he had.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to SPCA of Hancock County, 141 Bar Harbor Road, Trenton, ME 04605.
