James Glendon Lowe, 72, of Boothbay passed away at Maine Medical Center in Portland on Friday, Sept. 3, 2021. He was born Feb. 9,1949, in Bangor, the son of Madeline Theo Brown and Glendon Lowe.

Jim grew up in Corea. He spent much of his childhood with his grandparents in Steuben. He attended high school at Washington Depot High School in Roxbury, Conn., and then attended Maine Maritime Academy in Castine. He was an incredible basketball player and enjoyed playing soccer.

He loved talking to others, listening, supporting and offering advice. He enjoyed splitting wood, working on traps/painting his buoys in his garage (which he made into his workshop). He was a strong believer in a daily nap in his recliner and was an avid animal lover, especially to his cat Sophie. Jim was a Friend of Bill W for 42 years and was a firm believer in the so what crowd.

Jimmy was predeceased by his parents, cousin, Paula Leighton, and granddaughter, Katie Reed.

He is survived by his wife, Sandra; children, Susan (Jon) Carr, Betsy Lowe (Pete Daley), Greta Lowe, Nancy (Cliff) Condon and Kenneth Reed and Heather Payne, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and Aunt Audrey Leighton. Other family members include Linda (Frank) Redman, Jenny Brown and many cousins.

He will be missed by special friends of the fishing communities of the Boothbay region.

A boat parade occurred on Sunday, Sept. 12. A celebration of life was held on Sunday, Sept. 12, at Barrett’s Park, Lobster Cove Road in Boothbay Harbor.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Boothbay Community Center, 185 Townsend Ave., Boothbay Harbor, ME 04538 or the Fishermen’s Memorial, P.O. Box 304, Boothbay Harbor, ME 04538, in memory of James Lowe.
