John J. Vishio Jr., 77, died Aug. 11, 2021, at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston after a long battle with cancer. John was born in Philadelphia on May 7, 1944, to Anna (Helinski) and John Vishio Sr.
A graduate of Villanova University, John was an avid fan of college basketball. He proudly served in the U.S. Army for nearly two decades as a sergeant; his role as a combat leader made him suited for a leadership role in his work following his retirement from the Army. More recently, he was a parishioner of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Ellsworth and had previously been a longtime member of St. Peter’s Parish in Southwest Harbor. John was a businessman, a family man and a proud veteran. He will be missed dearly by his loved ones.
John is survived by his wife of 20 years, Barbara Hannon-Vishio; his children, Joanna Vishio and her husband, Kyle, Taylor Vishio and her husband, Kevin, and Jonathan Vishio; grandchildren, Dylan and Quinn and other members of the Hannon family, Brian Hannon, Jay Hannon and Jenni McKee, Mark Hannon and Samantha Hannon.
A wake will be held on Friday, Aug. 27, 2021, from 5-7 p.m. at Jordan-Fernald in Ellsworth. A Mass will take place the following morning on Aug. 28 at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Ellsworth with Father John O’Hara. Interment will be at a later date in a national veterans cemetery in Pennsylvania.
