Harold “Babe” Crowley, 90, passed away with his wife, Pam, and other family members by his side at his home on Aug. 3. Babe was born on Sept. 24, 1930, in Corea, the son of Harold and Ina (Rolfe) Crowley.

Babe began lobster fishing out of Corea at the early age of 6 and didn’t stop until his 86th birthday. After graduating from Winter Harbor High School in 1948, he lived a full and happy Downeast Maine life. He was a founding member of the Corea Lobster Co-op in 1973, a member of the Knights of Pythias, played in a bowling league for many years and served on the board as a lifetime member of the Maine Lobster Association. With his quiet and calm dedication to the profession, Babe Crowley was a role model and inspiration to lobstermen and women spanning several generations. Rumor has it that at his retirement, he was the eldest lobsterman on the whole coast of Maine!

Babe was predeceased by his wife of 48 years and mother of his children, Eula (Stanwood) Crowley, and by his brother, Allen Crowley. He is survived by his adoring wife of almost 20 years, Pamela (Lounder) Crowley, and by his two sons, Kerry and wife, Debbie, and Bruce and wife, Cindy. “Pup” will be lovingly remembered by his eight grandchildren and their families — Rick and wife, Amanda, Jeff and wife, Lucy, Duncan and wife, Lauren, Kelsey Springer and husband, Michael, Kinsey and Michael Hunt and wife, Abigail, Brandon and partner Sabrina, Ryan and wife, Ellen, as well as eight great-grandchildren, Riley, Logan and McKinley Crowley, Miles and Theo Crowley and Gavin, Dawson and Emerson Hunt. Babe is also survived by his sister, Amelia Page of Hancock, and several nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours were held on Thursday, Aug. 5, at Bragdon-Kelley Funeral Home, 215 Main St. in Ellsworth. A funeral service was held on Friday, Aug. 6, at Corea Baptist Church with Charles Kelley officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Corea Baptist Church, c/o Debbie Swan, 8 Jenny Lane, Corea, ME 04624 and/or “The Big House,” Unionville Church of God, 16 Concordia Drive, Steuben, ME 04680.
