Bar Harbor
Jane Ann Eastman Haraden, 92, of Bar Harbor, died in her sleep on July 24, 2021, after a short hospital stay. She was born April 16, 1929, the daughter of Frank Russell and Gladys Ward Eastman, in Wethersfield, Conn.
Jane graduated from Middletown High School in the Class of 1947. She studied art at the University of Hartford, graduating from the Hartford Art School in 1952. She met Gerard Haraden of Bar Harbor working at the Frenchman Bay Boating Co. on the town wharf for the summer. They were married in 1952. They raised two sons while moving more than 25 times while Gerard worked for the U.S. Coast & Geodetic Survey. Their life as a family was adventure-filled with exploring new regions, camping, boating and enjoying the outdoors. After all the work-related travel, they traveled the world as tourists from their base on Long Pond. They loved living on the pond and moved to Birch Bay Retirement Village when care of the property became too much. Jane was active in her church, the MDI Hospital Auxiliary, Garden Club, and served on the board of trustees of the Jesup Library. She loved to paint and had weekly outings with her painting friends. She laughed and made friends easily.
She is survived by sons Tom and wife, Jenny (Morley), of Castle Valley, Utah; and Jim of Bozeman, Mont.; and sister Nancy Eastman DiMauro of Brattleboro, Vt.
Cremation has taken place and services are planned for the future. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Bar Harbor Congregational Church UCC, 29 Mount Desert St., Bar Harbor, ME 04609 or Mount Desert Island Hospital, 10 Wayman Lane, Bar Harbor, ME 04609.
