John R. Johnson Sr., 80, passed away on June 1, 2021, at Rhode Island Hospital. John was born in Bangor to Kenneth A. and Rose Mabel (Dupre) Johnson. He graduated from St. John’s Grammar School and John Bapst Memorial High School in 1959. John received his business administration degree from Husson University. John started his career with Armour Food Co. in 1963. He was transferred to Woodsville, N.H., as branch manager in 1977. In 1979, he again was transferred to Braintree, Mass., as district manager for district sales for the company. In 1980, John became regional manager for Conagra Food Brands for all of New England. John retired from Conagra in 2003 as vice president of food service.
John is survived by his loving wife, Patricia S. (Stratton) Johnson, of Middleboro, Mass; his son, John R. Johnson Jr., and his wife, Kelly, and their children Tabitha and Emily Johnson of Plymouth; daughter, Michele, and her husband, Brian Bass, and their children Zachary and Jordan Bass of Plymouth, Mass.; and sister, Susan Gaudet, of Brewer. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, a son, Mark Andrew Johnson, a sister, Marilyn A. Johnson, a brother, Kenneth M. Johnson, and a brother-in-law, and best friend, Donald Gaudet.
Visiting hours will be held on June 14, 2021, from 4 to 6 p.m. at Jordan-Fernald, 113 Franklin St., Ellsworth. Services will be held at 11 a.m. on June 15, 2021, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 231 Main St., Ellsworth, ME 04605. Interment will be at Riverside Cemetery, Hancock.
