Hancock
Harry Kendall Lounder Jr., 80, passed away Saturday, May 29, 2021, at his home in Hancock after a long illness. He was born Oct. 13, 1940, one of eight children to Lessie and Harry Lounder Sr. in Hancock.
He was a graduate of Sumner Memorial High School, Class of 1959. He retired from the State of Maine Highway Department after working there for over 20 years. After retirement, he worked part time at Advance Auto in Ellsworth and made many friends while working there. He liked interacting with people and was much happier working than being retired, He also worked as caretaker to several families who lived at Hancock Point during the summer and thought of them as extended family. He was a member of the Hancock Volunteer Fire Department and the Hancock Volunteer Police Department and a member of the David A. Hooper Masonic Lodge in Sullivan for many years.
Harry is survived by his wife of 48 years, Annabelle, son Harry Lounder III, grandchildren Stephen Kendall and MacKenzie Anne Lounder and their mother, Sarah Lounder, sisters and brothersin-law Helen and Walter Norwood, Edith Lounder, Gertrude Haskins, Nancy and Ed Wright, Pamela and Babe Crowley, Cecil “Ernest” and Judy Page and Andrew “Bing” and Lillian Lounder, Amelia Page, Bruce Rich and Lynn Whalen, and many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, oldest brother Arthur “Tookie” Page, two children, Lisa Jean and Nicholas Lounder, niece Betty Sprague and both sets of grandparents.
Donations may be made in Harry’s name to the Hancock Volunteer Fire Department in Hancock in lieu of flowers.
A memorial service for Harry will be announced at a later date.
