Carolyn “Bunny” Ada-Nadine (Sawyer) Church, 86, died unexpectedly at her home on April 30, 2021. Carolyn was born on Dec. 26, 1934, in Jonesport to parents Hollis Vinal and Doralies Minnie (Libby) Sawyer.
Carolyn attended Graceland College in Lamoni, Iowa. She went on to work as a journalist, writing for Bill Balance at the number 1 rated KFWB Hollywood radio station in L.A. One of her work assignments was to travel to Honolulu, Hawaii, and report on the highlights in the islands. While in Hawaii, she met her first husband, Vincent Bonfiglio. They married in Kenosha, Wis., and then lived together in California, where they raised six children. In 1979, they moved to Maui, Hawaii, where they farmed macadamia nuts until 1981. Carolyn owned a business until she relocated to Jonesport in 1998. There, she married her childhood sweetheart Keith Church. They spent many wonderful years together, dividing their time between a winter home in Westlaco, Texas, and Jonesport. Carolyn was known for her cooking and baking. She also enjoyed horseback riding, ballroom dancing, reading romance novels, traveling, biking, playing shuffleboard and listening to country music. Carolyn touched many lives from coast to coast; she will be missed terribly by all who love her.
Carolyn is survived by her children, Michael of Santa Paula, Calif.; Marie Fukushima of Ellsworth, Mario of Kula, Hawaii, Marc of Kihei, Hawaii, Matthew of Canyon Country, Calif., and Mia Taylor of Martinez, Calif.; 17 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her brothers Richard and Paul Sawyer.
A celebration of life will be held at Sandy River Beach in Jonesport on Saturday, May 15, at 2 p.m.
