Otis
Lawrence A. Salisbury passed away peacefully at his home at the age of 95, on April 16, 2021, surrounded by his family. He was born on Aug. 6, 1925, in Holden.
Lawrence served in the Army from 1943 to 1946 and served in WWII at the Battle of the Bulge, where he was awarded good conduct and victory medals. After WWII, he worked driving trucks for Franklin Sand and Gravel as well as Irving Wilbur, and Gordon Fellis Construction, Mike Salisbury Construction and retiring from the Maine Department of Transportation. He also cut and sold firewood up until the last few years. He was a longtime road commissioner for the town of Otis. He could always be found in a few special places to him, up in the woods cutting and splitting wood, in his garage working on equipment and projects with his dog Rodney by his side, or at the Otis General Store having morning coffee or lunch with the locals. Lawrence enjoyed watching the History Channel and reading historical books.
He was predeceased by his sons, Stephen and Brandon, mother, Florence, and father, Carlton, sisters Arleeta and Corice and brother Emery.
He leaves behind his loving wife of 73 years, Vivian; son Michael and companion Brandi; daughter Joyce and husband, Harry; grandsons Tyler Salisbury, Justin Smith, Christopher Smith, Brent Spencer and BJ Spencer; granddaughters Kristy Salisbury and Sara Austin; 10 great-grandchildren; brother Leverett Salisbury and wife, Alice; sisters Vera Judware and Alice Herrick and husband, Eddie; and former daughter-in-law Laura.
A service will be held May 8 at noon at the VFW Hall Washington Junction Road, Ellsworth.
