William E. Pitt Jr., 69, died comfortably April 16, 2021, at Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center, Bangor. He was born Nov. 20, 1951, in Pawtucket, R.I., the son of the late Claranne (Hamilton) and William E. Pitt Sr. He graduated from East Providence High School in East Providence, R.I., and from the University of Rhode Island with a BS degree in geology.

William’s professional career with Geotechnical Engineering Services required extensive travel all over the USA, the Middle East and Pacific Islands. There were many interesting stories he would tell about his work on the Alaska Pipeline in the below freezing winter months, establishing the groundwork for erecting some of the first wind-generated turbine windmills in Palm Springs, Calif., or working underground doing the engineering for the construction of an underground freeway beneath the city of Boston.

William moved from Derry, N.H., to Maine in 2006 to care for his mother and decided to permanently reside in his most beloved state of Maine, close to his much beloved extended family. Family was always at the center of his universe.

He is survived by his sister and her husband, Lorraine and David Crook of Tennessee; cousins, Sue Webber of Gouldsboro, Keith Young of Gouldsboro, C. Richard Young and wife, Joyce, of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., and Mary Flaum of Winter Harbor.

A graveside memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 25, at the Morton Bunker Cemetery in South Gouldsboro.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests you consider a memorial contribution to the Eleanor Widener Dixon Memorial Clinic Committee, 37 Clinic Road, Gouldsboro, ME 04607.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Bragdon-Kelley Funeral Home, Ellsworth, where online condolences may be shared: www.bragdonkelley.com.
