LAMOINE – Maurice Emery Googins Jr., 89, died Aug. 21, 2016, at Seaport Village, Ellsworth. He was born in Lamoine, May 25, 1927, son of Maurice Emery and Effie (McDonald) Googins Sr.
He worked as a carpenter all of his life all over Maine. He worked for the government at the bases at Loring, Presque Isle and Winter Harbor. He also worked for Kenny Hutchins and Ray Builders. He was a Past Master of the Lygonia Masonic Lodge No. 40 A.F. & A.M., Past Commander of the Blanquefort Commandry No. 13, Ellsworth and member of Anah Shrine. He swam at the YMCA several days a week until the last few years of his life.
Maurice is survived by Suzanne, his wife of 65 years; son, Gary W. Googins of Ellsworth; daughter, Lori J. Googins of Mapleton; grandchildren, Jason, Arielle, Arianna, Jamie, Jodie, and Jordan and husband Mike; great-grandchildren, Savannah, Isabella and Maximilian; a son-in-law, Donald “Buddy” Wood; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by daughter, Deborah Wood; and sister, Maudie Libby.
Calling hours will be held 5:30 to 7 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 25, 2016, at Jordan-Fernald, 113 Franklin St., Ellsworth, where a funeral service will be held 11 a.m., Friday, Aug. 26. Interment will be at East Lamoine Cemetery.
