Bruce E. Setler

Bruce Eugene Setler, 77, son of Verl and Lucille Setler, was born in Hyannis, Mass. He passed away after a short illness at a local hospital in Leesburg, Fla.

Following in his father’s footsteps, Bruce spent most of his working years in law enforcement. He started in the town of Barnstable, Mass., followed by Bourne, Mass., Richmond, Maine, the Sagadohac Sheriff’s Office, and spent 22 years with the Maine State Police, completing his career as a private detective in Maine and Florida.

Bruce was active in Masonry and was a past master of the Deer Isle lodge. He was also involved with Commandery and Shrine in Ellsworth.

Bruce was also president of the Franklin Vets Club for 14 years. In 1993, Bruce received the Ellsworth Area Chamber of Commerce “Commitment to Youth Award.” After moving to Florida at the request of his wife, Diane, he was active in their community on the board of directors, serving as vice president and the president before returning to work as a security officer.

Softball and golf gave Bruce many happy years in retirement.

Bruce is survived by his wife of 44 years, Diane, and two sisters, Vercille Johnson of Cape Cod and Judy Ricketson of Kissimmee, Fla. He was predeceased by two brothers, Merrill of Cape Cod and Kerry of Utah, and one sister, Karen Schofield of Spring Hill, Fla. Alan Setler, his son, also predeceased Bruce. Bruce has one surviving daughter, Rebecca Renaud of Fairhaven, Mass., and two stepsons, Bryan Pyy and Craig Pyy, both of Maine.

Burial will be in Marstons Mills, Mass., where Bruce spent many happy years growing up.
