Blue Hill
Carol Edith Mathiesen, 74, passed on Nov. 11, 2020, at the home of her daughter in Blue Hill, surrounded by her two children and her grandson. Carol was born on Nov. 23, 1945, on Staten Island, N.Y., to Edith and Trygve Mathiesen. She obtained her RN from St. Vincent’s Nursing School on Staten Island in 1965. After graduating from nursing school, she worked throughout the Eastern United States as a registered nurse before relocating to Maine in 1994 and settling in Orland, where she worked as a hospice home care nurse until retiring. She was a member of the Unitarian Universalist Church of Ellsworth. In her free time, she enjoyed knitting and quilting. Traveling was another of her joys. Over the last couple of years, she enjoyed participating in the Penquis Foster Grandparent program working with school-age children. She is survived by her daughter Rebecca, son-in-law Brett, grandson August, son Trygve, brother Donald, his wife, Maren, and their children Erik and Christine. She will be missed by all who knew her.
