
Brooksville
Jozsef (Joe) Meltreder Jr., 82, passed at his home in Brooksville, Dec. 11, 2020. Joe was born in Hungary, April 27, 1938, the son of Jozef Sr., and Yolanda Meltreder.
He was a refugee of the Hungarian Revolution and came to the United States in 1957. He apprenticed as a blacksmith in his home country, later bringing his skills to the Castine Living Museum, where he worked in the historical Blacksmith Shop educating all who came to see him. Joe loved his neighbors, treating them like family. He will be sorely missed by them.
Joe is survived by his daughter, Lisa Hafner, and partner James DeCamp; granddaughter, Violet Hafner; two great-grandchildren, Makayla and Peyton. He was predeceased by his parents and wife, Dora.
