Kory Albert Schmidt, 27, died unexpectedly the morning of Aug. 25 in a motorcycle accident. He was born Aug. 3, 1993, to Bert Schmidt and Melissa Wells.
Kory enlisted in the Maine Army National Guard in 2011 as a 91B wheeled vehicle mechanic. During his time overseas, he served as part of the operation Enduring Freedom, where he received many awards, such as the Army Achievement Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal and Combat Action Badge. Kory was honorably discharged in 2019 as a combat veteran.
Kory worked as a jack of all trades, from a carpenter to being a dock worker at the Stonington Lobster Co-op to being a mechanic millwright for K&M Power. He would help anyone with anything and he always did it with a smile on his face. He loved going for rides on his Harley Davidson and playing cribbage with his dad and brothers.
Kory loved to be surrounded by family and friends whether it was sitting around on the couch, singing his favorite songs, playing outside with his nieces and nephew, swimming in the pool with the family or giving one of his amazing hugs that everyone loved so much! Kory will be missed by so many people that knew him.
He is survived by his dad Bert; sister Shauna and fiancé Jesse; sister Shanoah; brothers Jake and Alex; nieces Leighia, Ellie, Stella, Jenna and Addison; nephew Jaxon; mother Melissa and her husband Howard, and sister Ashten. Kory loved his family above all. He was especially proud to be an uncle.
A celebration of his life will be held at 11:30, Sunday, October 11 at the Deer Isle ball field. This will be open to anyone who would like to pay their respects to the family.
