Frank Warren Higgins Sr., 73, of Mariaville passed away on Sept. 24, 2020, at his home, surrounded by family after a courageous battle with cancer. Frank was born on Dec. 31, 1946, in Bangor, to the late Roscoe and Olive Higgins. He was raised in East Providence, R.I.

In 1966, he joined the United State Marine Corps, was assigned to the 3rd Marine Division and deployed to Vietnam. Frank was seriously wounded in 1967, requiring amputation of his legs. He was awarded the Purple Heart and Bronze Star and honorably retired from the Marine Corps in 1968. That same year, Frank married Nola Marie Robertson in Rhode Island. A few years after marrying, they moved to Ellsworth to raise their four children.

Frank enjoyed the outdoors and hunting. Most days he would be found working in his shop. Frank’s artistic talent and welding skills forged his passion into Bent & Twisted Design. He took great pride in his work that was displayed by many family members, friends and businesses. Above all else, Frank loved spending time with his family usually by hosting a cookout or holiday meal. A stoic man, Frank never let his disability define who he was. He inspired his family and those around him to never give up and keep moving forward. Frank was always willing to help friends and family however he could. He was a hero in every sense of the word.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Nola, children Frank Higgins Jr., Jamie Higgins, Rebecca Thomas and her husband, David, grandson Kolby Higgins, brother Roscoe Higgins, sisters Lorrie Higgins and Joann Gillett, nieces Shannon, Jenny and Sadie, nephews Keith and Jesse, good friends Mike Honey and the Franco family. He was predeceased by his son Daniel Joseph Higgins.

In lieu of flowers or gifts in Frank’s memory, the family requests to pay it forward to someone in need. If willing, please share your pay it forward story at www.facebook.com/www.bentandtwistedesign/.

A private service will be held for the family.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Bragdon-Kelley Funeral Home, Ellsworth, where condolences may be shared at www.bragdonkelley.com.
