FRANKLIN

Raymond Lewis Foss, 81, went home to be with the Lord on July 27, 2020. He was born in Ellsworth on April 2, 1939, to the late Vinal and Mabel Foss. He was predeceased by infant son, Jeffrey Keith Foss, and beloved daughter, Trudy Lynn Pickard. Left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Norma Foss Stone (Buster); mother of his children, Cynthia Tassinari (Larry); and much loved grandchildren, Justin Pickard (Chelsea Rand), Ryan Pickard (Alisha), Molly Stone, Tommy Stone and Benjamin Stone. He is also survived by his loving siblings, Elva Gurney and Donald Foss (Sue), many special nieces, nephews and six great-grandchildren. Special thanks to grandson, Ryan Pickard, for his help when called upon and to nephew, Andy Foss, for his searches for Uncle Ray when he went on his “walks,” which Andy aptly named the Rubber Sole Express. For the past several years, Ray was blessed to be the companion of Dayle Savage, and Ray’s family is forever thankful for the loving care she gave him.

Ray began Foss Forest Products in the 1970s and ran the business for several years with his son-in-law, Scott Pickard, by his side for many of those years. For several years, he was a faithful member of Family Bible Church.

Ray lived in many different homes as a child, and when he bought his first home in Waltham, it was a proud achievement. He loved the outdoors and it was a good day when he could take a long walk in the woods. Ray had a passion for racing and was a co-owner of the Crash Orange 44 car with Irving Wilbur and Harvey Jordan. It was a fast car that won many races at the Graham Lake Speed Bowl. His love of racing continued with his grandson, Justin Pickard, as they shared many years of Justin’s go-kart and stock car racing.

Heartfelt thanks go to the wonderful staff at EMMC for the compassionate care they gave Ray while in their care for 35 days.

Ray’s beloved cat, Missy, brought great joy to his life, and is now being wonderfully cared for by Jesse Jones (Paige Preston). Donations in Ray’s memory can be made to the SPCA of Hancock County, 141 Bar Harbor Road, Trenton, ME 04605.

Due to the pandemic, a graveside service will be held at a later date.
