Jacob Chesley Leo Oakes, 15, passed away unexpectedly in his home on the morning of July 24, 2020.
Jacob was born Jan. 15, 2005, to Theresa Rhodes-Pomroy and Scott I. Oakes II.
Jacob was a bright soul who loved so many, and was loved by so many more. Since the day he was born and placed in our arms, he melted our hearts and lifted our souls, and had the same effect on all who met him. With a mischievous twinkle in his eyes, he’d give his quirky smile, and you couldn’t help but smile and laugh back.
He loved to make people laugh with his charm, silly dances and practical jokes, especially with his baby brothers. He was such a doting and helpful brother to both Kingsley and Lukas as babies. He also shared a special bond with his big sister, Meagan; they were inseparable when he was small.
Jacob had a great affinity for catching fish, frogs and snakes. He grew up constantly on the hunt for “the next big one.” To him, there was no greater thrill than reeling in his line to discover what he’d caught or flipping over every rock and log to find his snakes and salamanders. One special memory that will be remembered is the way he laughed and laughed after losing a snake in the house, only to have his Grammy find it at 3 a.m., scaring her senseless.
Jacob is survived by his parents; as well as his siblings, Lukas Oakes, Kingsley Pomroy, Meagan Eastman and Trevor and James Klopfstein. He is also survived by his maternal grandmother, Wendy Hogan (Grammy) and her partner Glenn Mashburn; his paternal grandparents, Deborah and Greg Pollard (Nana Kitty and Grampy); his aunts, Jessie Harmon and partner Chris Richards, and Kayla Georgia and husband Corey; and great-aunts and uncles, Holly Savage (Auntie Hotty) and husband Brian, and David Pomroy (Uncle Dave).
He was predeceased by his maternal grandfather, Jeffery Rhodes (Papa) and his paternal grandfather, Scott I. Oakes (Grampy Harley).
Jacob also leaves behind his special extended family, the Eastmans, as well as many special cousins, best buds, teachers and special friends who have loved and supported him through the years and through his battles with depression.
A service for Jacob will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 8, at Southwest Harbor Congregational Church on High Street. Child care will be available on site.
There will also be a small celebration that evening at 8:30 at the Algerine Coast for any who wish to attend.
