SULLIVAN – Elizabeth “Betty” E. West passed away peacefully on Aug. 6, 2016, the day after her 77th birthday. Betty was born Aug. 5, 1939, to Theodore Gray and Elizabeth Hopkins.
Betty worked for many years in shoe factories and as a chambermaid. She married Richard “Dickie” West in 1956; they had five children. They were together for 45 years before his passing in 2001.
Betty loved her family and her bingo. She is survived by her two sons; Bob Turton of Calais; Charles West and his wife, Mary, of Sullivan; her two daughters, Elizabeth Griffiths and her husband, John, of Michigan; Grace Riley and her husband, Robert, of Sullivan. Ten grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and two more on the way. She was predeceased by her parents, husband Dickie and son Richard Jr.
A memorial service will be held Aug. 14, 2016, at 2 p.m., at St. Andrew Lutheran Church, 175 Downeast Highway, Ellsworth.
