ELLSWORTH – George H. Conley, 98, of Ellsworth, died on Friday, July 29, 2016, at his home. He was born on July 10, 1918, in Ellsworth Falls to Henry W. and Minnie B. (Whitney) Conley.
George graduated from Ellsworth High School in 1937, and attended Higgins Classical Institute and Colby College. He served in WWII in the U.S. Army 9th Infantry Division in Europe.
He was an active member of the Union Congregational Church of Ellsworth Falls, serving on numerous committees. He was employed at H.C. Austin Furniture Co. for 29 years, retiring in 1986. He was a member of the VFW 9th Infantry Division Association, and participated in community service. George was an avid reader.
George is survived by two daughters: Elizabeth Ramirez and her husband, Marius, of Ellsworth, and Margaret Conley of Seattle, Wash.; two grandchildren, Verity and Demelza Ramirez, both of Ellsworth; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Ella Nason Conley; one brother; and five sisters.
Graveside memorial services will be held on Friday, Aug 5, 2016, 11 a.m., at Woodbine Cemetery in Ellsworth with Pastor Bob Maddocks officiating.
