Wayne Fountaine

Wayne Fountaine, 56, passed away unexpectedly from a stroke on March 1, 2020, at Gosnell Hospice House in Scarborough. He was born in Ellsworth on Aug. 12, 1963, to Joyce Tibbetts and Joseph Fountaine.

Wayne valued his time spent in and around the ocean. He was a career boat builder, and was especially proud of his achievements at John Williams Boat Co. in Hall Quarry. He loved his work family there.

Wayne is survived by his wife, Maria Mitchell Fountaine, whom he married on Oct. 13, 2017. He is also survived by his children, Mandy Fountaine and partner Eric Pronovost of Trenton, Jason Fountaine of Northeast Harbor and Justin Fountaine of Ellsworth; his special granddaughter, Charlotte Hodgkins; siblings, Steven Fountaine of Sullivan, Joseph Fountaine of Sullivan, David (and Stephanie) Fountaine of Bar Harbor, and Mike (and Anne) Fountaine of Orlando, Fla.

Wayne also leaves behind many stepbrothers and stepsisters, often speaking of Rita, Lowell Jr., Wesley and Darlene; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He valued his special relationship with his nephew JC Fountaine and wife, Stephanie, of Ellsworth, as well as his special cousin Marion.

Per Wayne’s request, there will be no formal service. A celebration of life will be held on May 31, 2020, at Abel’s Lobster Pound in Mount Desert.

In lieu of flowers, please consider giving to Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough or to the SPCA of Hancock County in Trenton.
