SWAN’S ISLAND – Mr. Stephen Charles Joyce, 80, died July 2, 2016, at his home, surrounded by his family.
A memorial service was held at Woodland Baptist Church in Wake Forest on Saturday, July 16, 2016. Mr. Joyce will be interred on Aug. 7, 2016, in the Rose Hill Cemetery on Swan’s Island following a memorial service in the Methodist Church.
Mr. Joyce was born in Ellsworth on June 24, 1936, to the late Rachel Moulden and Charles Henry Joyce. He was employed by IBM, for over 40 years, as a field engineer and later as a technical writer.
He was raised on Swan’s Island and throughout his life his love of the island and island life never waned. In addition to visiting the island as often as he could, he stayed involved by archiving historical documents and photographs along with the creation and maintenance of the island’s complete genealogy. No matter where he lived, Swan’s Island was his home.
He spent his spare time enjoying woodworking, gardening, automobile repair, genealogy, and following NASCAR. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army.
