HANCOCK
Alonzo Alley Wentworth, the man, the myth, the legend, 69, of Hancock, passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends on Feb. 3, 2020.
Alonzo was predeceased by his parents, Herbert and Norma Wentworth, brother Jack Wentworth (baby), brother Herbie Wentworth Jr., sister Edna (Pippy) Chattley, granddaughter Amber Richardson and most recently, brother Jack D. Wentworth.
He is survived by his sister Polly Young, whom he loved dearly, and his brother Gene T. Wentworth, who worked for Alonzo side by side for 20-plus years. Alonzo left behind three children and partners, Taffy Wentworth and Scotty Mckenna, Joe Perry and wife, Samantha, and Alonzo (Bo) Lindsey and partner Lisa Gordon. He is also survived by his grandchildren Jacob Richardson, Michael Perry, Joshua Fowler, Elizabeth Lindsey and newest granddaughter Gemma (Gemmanator) Perry. He is also survived by two great-grandchildren, Brittlynn Fowler and Beckett Fowler.
Many nieces and nephews will also feel the void by Alonzo’s passing, Vanessa Young, Lisa Bubel, Billy Webber, Sebastian Wentworth, Bubby Chattley, Lawrence Chattley and J. D. Wentworth along with his wife, Daisy Wentworth.
Alonzo was known as quite the “Ladies Man,” hence, he left behind four ex-wives who he still held love for in his heart. If you asked him, though, he would always tell you he had five ex-wives. (We still haven’t figured out who the fifth one is.)
Alonzo started out his career as a master plumber, master electrician and carpenter working for Ray Day of Ray Day Builders. He worked for many years for Ray and they became close friends. He eventually went on to own/operate Ray Day Builders after the passing of his dear friend Ray. In the 27 years of running his business, he made many lifelong friends who he considered family.
Alonzo spent most of his life involved in different organizations as a means to raise and donate money to the charities he so believed in.
He was active in the Trenton Grange for many years, where he eventually rose to become the Master. He also spent 20-plus years as a member and officer of the Ellsworth Elks and rose to Exalted Ruler. He was very proud to be a charter member of the Ellsworth Moose Lodge and held the title of Governor at the time of his passing.
The family would like to recognize and thank Sharon Grant and Daisy Wentworth for the care and compassion they gave Alonzo in his last hours.
The family will be having Alonzo’s celebration of life on March 21, 2020, at the new Moose Lodge located on the Washington Junction Road at noon.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Children Cancer Fund, which can be made at the Ellsworth Elks, or to the Endowment Fund, which can be made at the Moose Lodge located on Foster Street in Ellsworth.
