ELLSWORTH
Wilbur Nathan Ranney passed away peacefully on Dec. 15, 2019, after a period of declining health. He was born April 1, 1937, in Old Town, the son of Nathan Ranney and Arvilla C. Ranney.
He was raised in Bangor by his mother, Arvilla, and stepfather, Anthony Verceles.
Wilbur was a graduate of Bangor High School. He served in the United States Navy, spending two years in the reserves while in high school, before going on active duty for the next four years, which was followed by an additional two years in the reserves.
After his honorable discharge, Wilbur began his career as a meat cutter with C.H. Rice Co. and Columbia Markets in Bangor. Following that, he was employed by Eastern Fine Paper Mill until it closed.
In recent years, Wilbur served his community as a driver for Downeast Community Partners transporting in the Ellsworth area, something he enjoyed. In his younger years, Will played bass guitar and performed at area clubs.
He was a life member of both the Bangor and Ellsworth B.P.O.E. Order of Elks, serving in many capacities, including exulted ruler in both chapters, as well as many other positions. Will enjoyed riding his motorcycle and his trucks. He took great pride in his family.
He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Judee; his daughter, Michelle (Shelli) Deyone of Bangor; his stepchildren, Debra Reynolds and her husband, Harold, of Orland, Sherryl Dolliver-Fields of Trenton and Darrell Dolliver of Bangor; his brother Dennis and his wife, Sharon; his sister, Brenda Donroe and her husband, Bill; his six grandchildren, especially close to Taylor, Hunter, Nathan; nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his mother and stepfather, and brother, Stuart Ranney.
Funeral and burial services will be held in May. More information will be published in due time.
