HANCOCK POINT/FORT MYERS, FLA. – Baxter P. Jones, “Bubba,” died peacefully June 27, 2016, at his home in Fort Myers, Fla. He was born in Island Falls on March 14, 1936, to Paul L. Jones and Dorothy A. Spearen. Baxter grew up in Island Falls, graduated from Island Falls High School, Maine Central Institute and attended University of Maine, Orono.
Baxter owned and operated P.L. Jones and Son Well Drilling in Ellsworth for many years. He retired to lobster fishing in Frenchman Bay and the Skillings River. He enjoyed every minute of lobstering as captain of the Sumpn Fishy. Baxter enjoyed camping, fishing, golfing, boating, betting on NASCAR with “Crindle” and did them well. He was known for his tall tales and amazing stories.
He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Priscilla Marsters Jones; daughters Deborah and partner Corportate Dave, and Karlene Wright and husband, Gerry; sons Wendell “Yogi” and wife, Melody, Paul, Christopher Holmes and partner Theresa Cousins, and Jonathan Holmes and partner Sherri; grandchildren Joshua Jordan and wife Stevi, Jacob Jordan and fiancée Calla Lane, Noah Jordan and wife, Caitlin, Amy Chase and husband, Warren, Asa Jones and partner Rachel Ball, Lindsey Bradley and husband Brendan, Marine Jones, Acadia Jones, Hunter Jones, Jaelyn Jones, Michael Holmes and fiancée Shelby High, and Jeremy Holmes; great-grandchildren Megan Jordan, Caleb Jordan, Elliott Jordan, Bryer Jordan, Autumn Chase, Addison Chase, Marlee Bradley, Irelyn Bradley, Findley Bradley; and his sister Jerolyn Ireland.
He was predeceased by his parents, his son Preston Jones, and the mother of his children, Sandra Brown Jones.
Graveside services will be held at Riverside Cemetery, Hancock, on Aug. 20 at 1 p.m., gathering to immediately follow at 561 Bayside Road, Ellsworth.
