Carroll MacQuarrie passed away Nov. 2, 2019, at his home. He was born Oct. 4, 1940.

He was predeceased by his father, Clifford MacQuarrie, his mother, Elizabeth Strout MacQuarrie Nelson, his stepfather, Elmer Nelson, his wife, Lucille Mathews MacQuarrie, his brother, Gene MacQuarrie, and his nephew, Rodney Morse.

He is survived by his sister, Myrna Thompson, his nephews, Billy and Leon Thompson and his partner, Judy, his great-nephew, Nicholas Thompson, his nieces, Annette Thompson, Kelley Wescott, Amy Mathews and Katie Parker, his brother-in-law Foster Mathews and wife, Leta, his brother-in-law, Dickie Mathews, and his sister-in-law, Gloria Bagley, and husband, Julian, as well as dear friends Debbie Parker and Linda, Nicholas Parker, whom he loved like a grandson, and all of his church family.

Carroll worked at the woolen mill that is now the Mill Mall and at the machine shop that used to be in Washington Junction, before taking a janitorial position at the Hancock County Courthouse, where he worked until he retired.

He will be remembered for his calm nature, his heart and his extraordinary ability to take each day as it came. Carroll didn’t believe in worry or regrets, nor did he believe in belaboring an issue with conversation. He simply lived by faith in God and an unwavering trust that life will move in the direction it is meant to go.

A celebration of life will be held at the Christian Ridge Church at 53 Christian Ridge Road, Sunday, Nov. 10, at 2 p.m.
